Startup Weekend at Cornell University
Seattle-based non-profit accelerator Startup Weekend is officially coming to Cornell University on September 28th. Sponsored by the Kaufmann foundation, Startup Weekend will be hosted by organizers and facilitators in cities all around the world from London to Brazil to Mongolia. Essentially, the goal of a Startup Weekend event is to inspire individuals with ideas to form teams which are then helped through the startup founding process so that they can successfully get their venture off the ground. Cornell University is the first academic institution to partner with Startup Weekend.
Initially, every participant who has a startup idea pitches it to the other participants. Then the top ideas are decided by popular vote. After this, according to the official website, “it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation”. Helped along by Startup Weekend organizers, the participants finally culminate the weekend with presentations of their ventures in front of local entrepreneurial leaders, gaining more feedback and validation to continue pursuing whatever they started. The organizations Cornell-specific website http://cornell.startupweekend.org/ has most of the information regarding the event.
