NBA 5630 – The IPO and Margers and Acquisition Process – Willett

Comments from Professor Willett:

Why is the course valuable to entrepreneurial students?

For many new businesses, development of an “exit strategy” is an important component of business planning. A public offering or a change of control transaction are often viable alternatives for such an exit strategy and the course covers these processes in some detail.

What kind of students should/ should not take this course?

The course has historically been composed of a combination of business and law students and students considering a career in investment banking or corporate law might find some value.

What are the challenges associated with taking this course?

Since I am a practicing attorney, I tend to look at issues from that perspective and the course involves a lot of emphasis on laws and regulations governing public offerings and mergers and acquisitions.

Other points the professor wants to share about the course.

The course also covers recent developments in the area and, with recent legislation, including the JOBs Act, there have been quite a few changes and developments in the area.
