Johnson Shark Tank Winner – Solar Flare!
February 5th was the premiere of the Johnson Shark Tank. There was a huge turnout and tons of attention on the event due to its location in the atrium of Duffield Hall. The 6 judges were promptly there and before we knew it, the competitors were all pitching their ideas. The evening started off with the first pitch by Marshfillows, a student startup that is reinventing the s’more experience and the conventional marshmallow, to the new and upcoming internet service provider FiberSpark, to the infamous Party Headphones that have hosted the notorious Silent Parties on campus. After 2 hours of back to back pitches, the night ended with the winner – Solar Flare! Winner video can be seen below. Runner up and peoples choice went to the same team SUNN. Solar Flare produces mind enhancing bars that have been used in space by Nasa astronauts! Mikayla Diesch is a freshman engineering student whose consumer product was a hit amongst the judges. The picture of her bars in space really captured the attention of most in the audience. Mikayla co-founded the company, with her sister, when she entered a competition to design something nutritional for the astronauts in space. Having generate a great idea, she decided to take her idea a step further and start generating the product. The bars are set to debut in colleges and private schools across the country in 2013 and should be in full retail production by 2018.
After the event was over, things wrapped up quickly, and before we knew it, Duffield Hall resumed its natural operations and was silently awaiting the next debut of the next Shark Tank!
