RedHead Wines – Marisa Sergi ’15

Talk about the Cornell connection to RedHead Wines and how did you come up with the idea?
RedHead wines was started as a Capstone project, a requirement for all Viticulture students here at Cornell. Marisa Sergi started just desigining the label for the wine, but decided she wanted to make her work as legitimate as possible by having the label approved by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), which required a recipe. Now, this recipe has become RedHead wine, a sweet and fruity wine with, finished with a fiery kick.
When was the firm started?
The concept for RedHead came about in November 2012 while Marisa was brainstorming for her Capstone project, but the label wasn’t approved and she didn’t start making the wine until August 29th, her 20th birthday.
How many students are involved?
Currently the RedHead team is just Marisa.

Where are you based?
RedHead is based both in Ithaca and Ohio. The wine is produced and bottled at Luva Bella Winery in Lowellville, Ohio, but Marisa currently lives in Ithaca.
