Taking Home the Prize – Worthy Jerky Wins 2014 Student Business of the Year
Congratulations to Worthy Jerky for winning Student Business of the Year!
The revolutionary beef jerky business has been taking the Cornell entrepreneurship community by storm. Ever since their nomination for the award by the Dyson School to represent CALS in the competition they have faced sleepless nights and busy spring breaks preparing for their presentation. All the preparation paid off and they are now going home with $5,000.
After the presentation, we were able to catch up with Founder, Alex Krakoski ’16, Brenda Margolies ’15 and Ben Pham ’17. Ben told us how this money will help them continue to grow on their own and remain independent while they search for larger funding, perhaps from an angel investor. As Alex explained, the company is in a position where $5,000 will make a big difference for them, especially in comparison to some of the other companies.
The competition for the award was very high and it was a close race, which made the win even more important for Worthy Jerky. By beating out more established student businesses, Worthy Jerky has taken its place in the growing entrepreneurial community on campus. Alex, Brenda and Ben all recognized the importance of the win and are very excited to continue moving forward with the support and recognition of Cornell. And we are very excited to see where they go.
