Cornell Startups Present to Alumni at CALC

Some of Cornell’s top student entrepreneurs had the chance to present their entrepreneurial pursuits to alumni at the 2018 Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference (CALC) in Philadelphia. A Student Entrepreneurship Showcase was the feature event on the closing day’s lunch. After the five minute pitches and a few minutes of Q&A, hundreds of alumni and about thirty student attendees voted for their favorite startup. MilesAhead, Comake, and Suna Breakfast all presented their businesses to an eager crowd.

Comake pitches to an eager crowd

MilesAhead is an eLab participating team that delivers luxury travel consulting services to its 700 and growing personal clients. The team noted the $638 billion dollar luxury travel market has fostered their growth during their six years of operation. Founded by Rob Karp in 2012 while he was still a high school student, MilesAhead has seen tremendous growth over the years. The company specializes in airfare point optimization and curating tailored travel plans for their clients. They have coordinated cruises, safaris, and hotels for thousands of vacations and look forward to growth in the future.

Comake is a Cornell startup devoted to understanding the “geology of files from start to finish.” Many times people will save several versions of files, only to watch some versions get lost across computer memory and cloud storage. Comake is a modern file browser that helps users track and understand the lives of their files. The browser is on a Freemium model, allowing users to assess some of its functions for free with full version available to paying subscribers. Currently hiring full time employees, the team knows there are great things to come.

If you are a student, there is a likelihood you either skipped breakfast or ate a dissatisfying one today while heading to class. New startup Suna Breakfast provides students breakfast delivery that fits their schedules and lifestyles. After performing a four day trial run with clients in Schuyler House, the company confirmed there is a need and desire for breakfast delivery. The company plans to launch across Collegetown and the Cornell campus in March with expansion to other college campuses in Spring 2019.

Congratulations to Comake for being the People’s Choice Winner and earning a trip to Cornell Silicon Valley 2018.
